The RSPB and BirdLife will work directly and urgently with fishermen on shore and at sea to show them these methods and encourage them to use them. This is expensive and time consuming and it needs a dedicated team of people - the Albatross Task Force team.
If you can help us act now, the Save the Albatross campaign can help stop magnificent albatrosses from becoming extinct. Your money can fund the Albatross Task Force team and their urgent work to train fishermen to keep seabirds off the hook.
Your support will help the BirdLife Partnership to convince governments and fishing authorities around the world to pass and enforce laws to protect albatrosses and other seabirds. This must include clear targets and timescales to reduce seabird deaths.
The gains made by our task force will then become a standard part of fisheries management. Long-term - good news for albatrosses.
Pirate fishing threatens albatrosses, so we want more global action to stop this. This includes monitoring where the fishing fleets are and tighter controls on ships flying flags of convenience.
